I am Nils Navarro, the author and illustrator of "Endemic Birds of Cuba: A Comprehensive Field Guide." This dynamic resource is included in the program cost for all participants on trips I co-lead for Caribbean Conservation Trust (CCT). The book features my illustrations and photographs and provides detailed and invaluable information on the habitat, distribution, behavior, and physical characteristics of Cuba’s 26 endemic birds, along with another 22 species endemic to the West Indies. This field guide is the result of many years of dedicated research, persistent determination, and my artistic brilliance.
I have dedicated my life to studying and conserving the biodiversity of my native Cuba, as well as other areas in the West Indies and Latin America. I hold a degree in Fine Arts and spent 10 years working as a taxonomist and curator at the Museum of Natural History in Holguin, Cuba. My work, characterized by refined technique and a profound understanding of the Caribbean region's biodiversity, has earned international recognition. As a wildlife artist and illustrator, I aim to capture the essence of the region's unique species and promote their conservation through my art and scientific endeavors.
